Villa Marthe

10
This villa, originally called "Villa de la Vièrge," was built around 1904 for French industrialist Léon-Hubert Marthe. Located high up on Route du Christ, the site inspired many artists.
Marthe, an art lover, became friends with poet Charles Van Lerberghe, who stayed in Bouillon in the early 1900s. There, Van Lerberghe wrote his masterpiece La Chanson d'Ève.
Later, the villa was home to painter Guillaume Edeline, a teacher at the Royal Atheneum of Bouillon. His works beautifully depict the Bouillon region.
From 1960, Nicolas Ramlot lived there for about 50 years. It later became the home of Marthe’s grandson Philippe Tavernier and his wife.
